Stephany is an American artist and writer who has been a member of DA for 7 years. She is best known for her role as a dedicated literature CV, but she is so much more than that. Long before she signed on to be a volunteer, Stephany had been working hard to deliver the largest compilation of news from all around the lit community on a weekly basis. Her undying efforts have made her a shining example for her fellow writers around the globe!

On a personal note, Stephany is described by her friends as a warm, friendly and funny deviant who "gives the best hugs." It would be a challenge to find a person who gives more time, effort and love to the community than HugQueen!

Hanging SilenceThe sky is only half-littered
(for our satellites have fallen)
with stars and my breath
(deep inside our chest)
isn't fogging up
(unhiding things our eyes would unsee)
the driver side window
(things we're unwilling to divest).
EchoesShe echoes inside.
Her loneliness leaving her barren and cold,
Her fingertips so bloodied and broken.
She had tried to climb out,
But to no avail.
Her love lay on the earth beside her,
As her tears,
Her eyes are chiseled out stars,
trails of gold carve into green;
wobbly curses splatter the walls
She tries to get out,
She tries to get out.
"Don't leave me," he says
as whispers
Trickling water resounds around them,
Its pattering going slower, and slower,
Pounding deep within her.
Her eyes, like chocolate melt with tears,
And as they flow she is immersed in nothingness.
Darkness is her friend,
Her weakness,
And her solace.
The very thing that plunged her here,
Won’t break her free,
She prays for unconsciousness,
Away from,
Mired fingers extend to the flash
of white and dark that is
his sinking hope.
Every heartbeat is like a thunderclap,
and he becomes afraid
of what glides on
snake-like bellies,
above the walls of earth.
A city of bones crack and rattle
as air
Fractured WingsI bandaged my wings in discarded cocoons,
and pasted sparrow feathers on my arms,
in hopes they would last until the dawn.
Fallen angels don't have to work too hard
To break down your hopes or to
tear off your useless wings
After you were done with the surgery
After I've stitched myself together.
I knew I'd never be the same again,
as hand-sewn angels who tumble
trying to grasp at the sunrise,
don't have very long to live.
I never meant to fall apart
Or tear you down with me
There's no more darkness in the light
No more time left to fight;
It's time to say goodbye.

Julian is a digital artist and writer from the UK. He has only been a member of DA for one short year but has already made a positive impact, primarily through his work at dAy-Brighteners. The focus of the group is to bring joy to your day through kind comments, helpful critiques, and blogs with inspirational words and cute pictures.

In addition to his work with groups, Julian continuously supports his fellow artists through regular, bi-weekly journal features, suggesting daily deviations and performing random acts of kindness. It is our pleasure to award this helpful and supportive deviant with a well deserved pair of wings!

A goodnight kissHe leans in for a kiss,
his soft lips pressed against her forehead.
Then he gently puts her picture back in place
Death was a lot faster than him.
DethronedI have created Eden, through the strokes of my pen,
But it was made of promises, and angels
That were too fragile to hold the weight of our sins.
You were my goddess, on a throne made of dreams.
Which you were probably
Loathing, because
They didn't glimmer and shine
like the diamonds decorating your rings.
Forgive me,
They were the hopes of a man
So madly in love, but you poured poison into his heart
And so he rotted, each time you gifted him with a kiss.
LegendsAnd they tell you
Out of tragedy, legends are born
But none seem to mention the struggle
While weaving the heroic tale.
They only talk ballads,
Of monsters slain, and battles won,
But none remember the sacrifices,
They only assume a hero has it all.

Despite her young age and the fact that she has spent only one year on Deviant Art so far, it’s conspicuous how meiyue is determined to make this community a better place. She is incredibly kind, willing to help out friends and strangers alike, and is showing her appreciation to her followers in various ways. Annie has improved a lot during this short period, and is always willing to share her knowledge. She also takes the time to visit pages of other deviants, give out llamas, or leave constructive criticism whenever she has anything helpful to say, or whenever an honest opinion is needed. She also holds giveaways for her watchers, even though she’s saving up points for a premium membership. Annie is also an enthusiastic suggester of daily deviations. Last but not least, she found a special way to draw attention to underexposed artists. She has a custom box on her page, where she features unnoticed artists, which she updates once a week – the featuring offer is completely free. She is also a crew member of the group; ProjectPorkchop which also helps unpopular artists. I think her generosity toward other people can’t go unnoticed – she has befriended and brightened the spirits of many, and is always willing to spread a little love around.

It’s hardly possible to find anyone in the community of writers who’s unaware of the name BeccaJS. Becca has been a Deviant Art member since 2005. She tries to convey positivity, love, fun, but also deep and emotional messages in her wonderful writings. She has also done an incredible amount for the community. Using CRLiterature as a hub, she pushed to have a central place where all writers can go and find out what's going on around dA when it comes to Literature. She is a founder of writing-workshop, and runs quality shops there, helping out both new and experienced writers to better themselves and explore new genres and forms they have never tried before. She is also willing to help out newbies, or anyone who may have a question, and is also often found in different chat rooms. Becca is always eager to leave constructive criticism – she’s giving away critiques and holds an event during the Christmas season, called Critmas, where she encourages other artists to do the same. Deviant Art would never be the same without her – as told, "Becca is a name in the Literature Community that is synonymous with awesome

exploration three steps to
“come on” you shout as he trots over
gravel laughing delighted at the crunch-crunch
beneath his feet
and there
and back again.
A dog bounds by, so much energy that
it sparks fear in the little trekker as
he clings to your leg, begging to be lifted.
Arms wrapped around his world,
he points at the sky, tells you its blue.

their lives are spared or
that a resurrection can be blessed

a seat in paradise
their sweet pollen inhaled

Why I Love Anthro Art

Thu Feb 12, 2015, 4:36 PM

It’s really no secret -- anthro and furry art is my favorite type of art.  You can see that from the art I create to the groups I’m a part of.  But why?  What is it about anthro art that’s so amazing?

I've wanted to write this out for a while, just to kind of get all my thoughts out there.  Not everyone 'gets' furry art; some people even think anthropomorphic art is deviant and dark.  But the truth is, for most of us, there are much different reasons for our love of furry art.

I think the biggest and most obvious reason is, I love animals.  No matter who you are or where you live, animals are probably a part of your life in some way or another.  Since childhood, I’ve loved animals of every type.  My mom always had pet birds, and there were always a couple of dogs and cats running around as well.  Over the years, I’ve owned a whole bunch of little pets, like rats, rabbits, hamsters, and guinea pigs.  Each and every animal that’s come into my life has left a deep impression in my heart.

So whenever I hunkered down with paper and crayons as a kid, I’d inevitably find myself drawing the animals I knew and loved.  In my mind, they had vivid personalities that came to life on paper -- a grumpy old dog with wrinkly brows, or a sly cat with a big grin.  Adding facial expressions and human-like bodies to my animal friends was a way for my young brain to express how I saw them in my mind.

As I grew older, this love for drawing animals just never went away.  Maybe it’s a feeling of connection to my younger self that keeps it going, or maybe it’s just that I still love animals of all shapes and sizes.  I like drawing animals, but I love drawing animals with human traits.  For me, it just brings to life that vividness of each animal’s personality traits.

But it isn’t just that.  I also love that anyone can become an anthro artist.  Anthro art spans a multitude of art types and skill levels, from costume-making and sculpture to oil paintings and colored pencil.  Anthro art is so varied -- anyone can take the idea and run with it, in whatever way inspires them most!

Maybe you’re into post-apocalyptic sci-fi acrylic paintings..  We’ve got anthro art for you!  More into sleek, romantic, digitally-drawn anime?  We’ve got anthro art for you.  Looking for literature?  Jewelry?  Music?  Poetry?  We’ve got it all!

The list goes on and on -- every imaginable type of art can be used to express the beauty of anthropomorphic subjects.  Because of this, there’s really something for everyone.  Anthro art doesn’t limit itself.  If you want to be an anthro artist, you can.  It’s as easy as that!

Probably the best part about being an anthro artist is the community that comes along with it.  I’ve never found a more warm and welcoming group of people.  We have our own little sayings and phrases that we use, but we still welcome new artists and art-appreciators with open arms.

In every furry or anthro community, there’s invariably a place where you can go and seek help from those who are more experienced.  Whether its help with life issues or help with art, no matter where you look you can find support in the anthro community.

We artists are a diverse group of people, at all stages of life. We come from all backgrounds, and have different ideas.  We do different things, we make different art, we have different jobs.  What brings us all together is our love of art.  I think every type of art has its own values and reasons to love.  These are just a few of my own thoughts on anthro art and community, and I suppose that's enough rambling for now!

What's your favorite type of art?  What are your reasons for loving what you do?
