Beautiful image, it caught my eye straight away out of your gallery, then again I'm a sucker for sunlit forests. It's a good classic composition and it works well, especially to show the tension between the two figures. The colour seems to express bright and hopeful yet melancholy. I really love the purple path, it's something I wouldn't think to put in but it looks fantastic against the green. I see you've echoed the purple in the gryphon's wings and the little birds. You could have put more blue/lavender into the shadows, but then it looks fine like this too. I also spotted that the chimney looks a bit flat.
I particularly like the way you do loose painting for the background but very fine, sharp detail in the foreground. Which program do you use to paint?
Oh goodness wow, thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! ;w; I absolutely love receiving feedback, it really makes my day!
I agree, the chimney does look a little flat, and perhaps the color could have been balanced out a little more with some more blues throughout... but I'm glad you like it overall!
I use Photoshop CS5 to paint, and I tend to prefer using the standard round brush for pretty much everything. I did end up making a grass brush for some of the detail in the foreground, since it was getting fairly tedious, but everything else was done with the round brush. :3
